“You must worship no other gods, for the LORD, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you. (Exodus 34:14 NLT)”
We may not be aware of it but we can have other gods that we worship. Yes, we worship other gods by giving them our time, effort, resources, ability, (excessive) thoughts and making them our priority. We worship them when we desire them more than we desire God.
God is a jealous God and He rightfully is! He made us, saved us and love us tirelessly. He deserves all the love that He can get in this world especially from His children. Just like a lover, He wants to have our heart fully dependent on Him. He wants to spend time with us, listening to our thoughts and endless whining. He wants us to feel that we are the most wonderful person in the world and no one is like us individually. We are unique and an apple in His eyes.
He wants our love and devotion.
He doesn’t need us but He wants us. He doesn’t need to love us but He still does. We can’t fully return the favor but He still blesses us. He knows we will rebel but still accepts us. How great God’s love is for you and me. It is unconditional, unchanging and unending. For Him to be jealous of us is His privilege. We are His.
